Then a great peace came over me & I seemed to hear the pines and the wind and the rocky shores say to me, 'You, lover of the wild, are part of us.' – Sigurd Olson
Keeping the Faith
An Eastern Bluebird catches the last rays of the sun.
The bluebirds are courting today. Their love songs echo up and down our little valley and everywhere there are flashes of blue and rose. Even though its only 40 degrees this afternoon, the birds press on with abandon. The faith birds have in the coming of spring, even when all signs point to the contrary, inspires me year after year. We assume that because birds have smaller brains than humans that they are incapable of something as complex as faith, but it is they who keep me going when it seems like spring will never come.
This photo was taken on our farm, in central Missouri, using a Canon EOS Digital Rebel with a 400 lens, mounted on a Manfrotto tripod, at f/11, 1/50, ISO 200. I tweaked the exposure slightly in Photoshop, but the photo is otherwise unaltered.
